Boomplay has launched in Ivory Coast, its 6th African country

Music streaming platform Boomplay has commenced operations in Côte d’Ivoire Ivory Coast, expanding its African reach to six countries.

The Chinese-owned company has been on a path of exponential growth since its launch in 2015. Its’s new offices in Abidjan add to the list of  Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana and Cameroon.

Paola Audrey Ndengue, the company’s General Manager, said, “We’re particularly proud to establish a presence in Abidjan, a creative and cultural hub in the region. The warm welcome our team has received from artists, local partners and stakeholders is a strong indicator for us moving forward. Boomplay is committed to contributing to the dynamism of the Ivorian music industry’.”

The entry of Boomplay into the Ivorian market gives artists access to over 70 million active users on the platform. This offers them an alternative stream of income as the platform pays per stream/purchase. Boomplay defines an active user as one who logs into the app more than once after the initial installation into a device or opening an account.

Boomplay is a subsidiary of Transsion Holdings, the Chinese phone manufacturer that has made its mark in the African continent with brands such as Tecno, Itel, and Infinix.

The music streaming app can attribute part of its growth to being pre-installed in the above phone brands, which are among the top sellers in the continent.

In recent years, the African market has attracted homemade and foreign streaming platforms for both video and music.
