Cunene Hospital Hosts First International Congress to Enhance Healthcare Quality

In a significant milestone for healthcare in Angola, the Cunene General Hospital, known as General Simione Mucune, has embarked on its inaugural International Congress and Scientific Conference. Kicking off this Friday, the event is dedicated to fostering a collaborative environment aimed at improving health services through shared knowledge and experience.

The two-day congress, themed “Caring for and Teaching One Population, One Nation in One Health,” has attracted an impressive gathering of 583 healthcare professionals from nations such as Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Namibia, South Africa, Rwanda, Cameroon, Portugal, Brazil, and Cuba. This notable attendance underscores a collective commitment to enhancing healthcare quality across regions, particularly as the Cunene hospital proudly marks its first anniversary.

During the event’s opening, Hamilton Tavares, the director of Cunene General Hospital, provided an engaging overview of the hospital’s journey and its unwavering dedication to delivering top-tier services. He emphasized the organization’s focus on training staff to promote innovation and enhance the human touch in healthcare delivery. The current congress holds special significance against the backdrop of Angola celebrating 50 years of independence, as noted by Dr. Agostinho Matamba, who represented the Minister of Health.

Dr. Matamba, who is also the director of the General Hospital of Cuanza Sul Comandante Raúl Díaz Argüelles, commended the congress for acting as a vital platform for exchanging ideas and experiences that strengthen partnerships in the healthcare sector. He stressed the importance of developing sustainable solutions that can be adopted nationwide.

The congress agenda includes a rich array of topics pertinent to current health challenges. National and international experts will delve into critical issues, including strategies for malaria prevention, the clinical characteristics of brain-dead diseases, advancements in patient safety, and methods for cervical cancer prevention. Other discussions will spotlight maternal health initiatives in Guinea-Bissau, the implications of HIV/AIDS, complications arising from diabetes, urological emergencies, and the urgency of early diagnosis for bladder cancer in Mozambique.

By convening such a diverse group of professionals, the congress stands as a beacon of collaboration and progress in healthcare, reinforcing Africa’s collective drive toward enhanced health systems. This event not only highlights the importance of regional partnerships but also aims to cultivate a healthier future for all.

Stay tuned for more updates from this groundbreaking event!
