On July 10, a remarkable group of eleven high school seniors from Los Angeles County were honored as the 2025 Milken Scholars. This scholarship program, a collaborative effort between the Milken Institute and the Milken Family Foundation, aims to uplift exceptional students, providing them not just with financial rewards but a platform for lifelong success. Each scholar is awarded a ,000 cash prize and access to invaluable resources such as college advising, career counseling, and internship support that will guide them through their academic and professional journeys.
The bright minds celebrated this year come from a diverse range of schools and have set their sights on some of the most prestigious colleges in the nation. Among them, we have Emely Cardenas from Maywood Center for Enriched Studies, who is headed to Yale, and Alyssa Finigan from Mira Costa High School, who will be taking her talents to Barnard College. Other honorees include Michael Isayan going to Harvard, Justin Lam off to MIT, and Leonardo “Leo” Lopez, who will be attending Princeton. The list continues with inspiring individuals like Esther Madar and Hayk Poghosyan, who are also set for esteemed institutions.
The Milken Scholars Program, established in 1989 by Mike and Lori Milken, identifies and supports students who demonstrate exceptional academic abilities alongside a commitment to community service and leadership. The rigorous selection process involves nominations, applications, and interviews, highlighting the remarkable perseverance of these students. Notably, past recipients have gone on to achieve great things, including inaugural poet Amanda Gorman and influential leaders in various fields.
Reflecting on the program’s success, Mike Milken stated, “Lori and I are sincerely heartened by the nearly 600 Milken Scholars over the past 35 years whose dedication and pursuit of excellence embody the program’s mission of inspiring Lifelong Leaders for a Better World.” With this commitment, the Milken Scholars strive to create positive change and inspire future generations.
