The Kaduna State Government has taken a significant step to enhance the welfare of academic staff at Kaduna State University.

It has approved the implementation of the December 2025 Federal Government-ASUU salary agreement, set to take effect in October 2026. This decision follows recommendations from the KASU-ASUU negotiation committee and reflects the government’s commitment to education and human capital development.

Kaduna State University Salary Agreement Approved

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abubakar Sambo, announced the approval during a press briefing. The package includes the revised Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) along with other salary adjustments and allowances. This move is part of a broader strategy to improve the welfare of academic staff and enhance educational standards in the state.

Governor Uba Sani’s administration has allocated at least 25 percent of its annual budget to education for three consecutive years. This financial commitment has enabled the construction and renovation of 3,267 classrooms, the provision of 1,194 toilets, and the installation of 90 boreholes across Kaduna State.

Kaduna’s Commitment to Education and Welfare

In addition to salary adjustments, the state government has implemented a 50 percent reduction in tertiary education fees to boost enrollment. The extension of teachers’ retirement age from 60 to 65 has also been introduced to enhance staff morale and commitment. These initiatives aim to tackle the challenge of out-of-school children, with over 300,000 children returning to education.

Furthermore, Kaduna’s innovative household mapping approach for identifying out-of-school children has gained national recognition and was adopted by the Federal Government. The state has also seen 4,050 young people graduate from its structured vocational training program, showcasing its commitment to skill development.

Next Steps for Kaduna State University

  • Implementation of the salary agreement in October 2026.
  • Continued dialogue among ASUU, SSANU, NASU, and NAAT.
  • Strategies to meet international educational standards.

Improved staff welfare is expected to lead to better educational outcomes at Kaduna State University.
