Lagos State to Acquire Over 200 Compactor Trucks
The Lagos State Government is set to bolster its waste management capabilities with the addition of over 200 new compactor trucks. This move aims to streamline waste collection and ensure efficient evacuation throughout the state. Deputy Governor Hamzat highlighted the necessity of this upgrade during a recent sanitation exercise.
Hamzat urged residents to engage only with registered Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste operators, warning against the use of cart pushers. He noted that improperly disposed waste could lead to flooding by clogging drainage channels. The emphasis is on organized waste management to protect the environment.
Lagos Government’s Commitment to Environmental Responsibility
During the sanitation exercise, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, discussed ongoing efforts to tackle waste accumulation on road medians. He assured residents that emergency teams are working continuously to improve waste management services. The government is also rehabilitating landfills and dumpsites to enhance overall waste disposal processes.
Wahab reiterated the importance of engaging PSP operators to ensure better service delivery, which could encourage residents to fulfill their waste payment obligations. The government is cautious about the activities of cart pushers, recognizing the potential risks they pose to the environment and community safety.
