The Gauteng government is making strides in housing development to address community needs.
Recently, the Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara, and the City of Johannesburg’s MMC for Human Settlements, Mlungisi Mabaso, visited Vlakfontein Ext 1, 2 & 3. They assessed a housing project that aims to complete 128 units for qualifying beneficiaries, with 68 houses already finished and a total budget of R9,433,600 allocated for the remaining units.
Progress on Vlakfontein Housing Project
The housing project in Vlakfontein is part of broader efforts to revive stalled developments in the region. The project aims to provide essential housing to residents who qualify. Currently, 68 units have been completed, showcasing significant progress.
However, the project faced delays due to the City of Johannesburg’s failure to extend contracts for the original service providers. In response, the department stepped in to appoint new service providers to ensure the completion of the remaining units.
