Ho Chi Minh City Launches 169 Electric Buses on Nine Routes

Ho Chi Minh City is making strides towards sustainable public transport with the launch of electric buses.

On March 1, 2026, the city introduced 169 electric buses across nine routes, operated by VinBus Ecology Transport Services LLC. This initiative replaces existing buses on routes connecting major areas, enhancing the city’s commitment to greener transport solutions.

Ho Chi Minh City Launches Electric Bus Fleet

The new fleet of electric buses operates on routes 32, 38, 45, 53, 64, 93, 127, 140, and 148. These routes link key locations such as Ben Thanh, Mien Tay, and Mien Dong bus stations, facilitating connections to the Mekong Delta and northern and central Vietnam. The buses are designed to improve accessibility for residents in Go Vap and surrounding suburban areas.

Manufactured by VinFast, the electric buses are low-floor models, ensuring ease of access. They come equipped with modern amenities, including cameras, electronic displays, wifi, and USB charging ports, enhancing the travel experience for passengers.

Ho Chi Minh City’s Commitment to Green Transport

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City operates a total of 2,325 buses, with 1,082 of them utilizing clean energy. This accounts for 48.4% of the entire fleet, showcasing the city’s ongoing efforts to transition towards sustainable public transport. The ambitious target is to achieve 100% green public transport by 2030, reflecting a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
