Sarawak plans 70-acre urban sanctuary in Batu Kawa redevelopment project

The Sarawak government is transforming Batu Kawa into a vibrant urban sanctuary by 2030.

Under the Ang Cheng Ho Quarry redevelopment project, a 70-acre park will be developed, featuring a quarry lake and various recreational facilities. Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian announced that Phase 2 of the project has begun, with an allocation of RM8 million this year.

Plans for a 70-Acre Urban Sanctuary in Sarawak

The Sarawak government aims to create a lush urban sanctuary comparable to KLCC Park in Kuala Lumpur. This initiative is part of a broader master plan to revitalize Batu Kawa, enhancing its appeal as a tourist destination. The proposed park will encompass over 40 acres of land and a 20-acre quarry lake, totaling approximately 70 acres of green space.

Dr Sim emphasized the importance of collaboration with private landowners to ensure a comprehensive town planning approach. The vision includes a shopping center, hotel, and other facilities, all set within landscaped gardens and park areas.
