Egypt Achieves Self-Sufficiency in Sugar Production in 2025

Egypt has reached a significant milestone by achieving self-sufficiency in sugar production in 2025.

This accomplishment is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing domestic agricultural output. Egyptian Minister of Supply Sherif Farouk highlighted that local wheat supply also saw a 17% increase, exceeding four million tonnes during the 2025 season.

Egypt’s Strategic Move to Sugar Self-Sufficiency

Egypt’s achievement in sugar self-sufficiency stems from a comprehensive plan that focuses on expanding cultivated areas and improving productivity. The government has actively supported local production of both sugarcane and sugar beet, which has contributed to this success.

Minister Farouk emphasized the importance of this achievement in the context of Egypt’s food security strategy. By reducing reliance on imports, the country aims to bolster its agricultural sector and ensure a stable supply of essential commodities.
