The Telkom Foundation has made a significant investment in education by enhancing facilities at Molalatladi Primary School in Soweto.
The foundation has handed over a fully equipped ICT laboratory with 40 computers, a technology hub, and upgraded classrooms. This initiative aims to expand access to technology and improve the overall learning environment for students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
New Digital Learning Facility Unveiled in Soweto
The Telkom Foundation’s investment includes a comprehensive upgrade of school infrastructure. Alongside the ICT lab, the project features bathroom renovations, minor repairs, and refurbishments of classrooms, the library, and the school hall. A roof structure has been added over the assembly area to protect students and staff from adverse weather conditions.
Safety and functionality have been prioritized, with external verandas refurbished and a perimeter palisade fence repainted. Additionally, a CCTV surveillance system has been installed to enhance security, and the school will receive uniforms and sportswear for learners in need.
Community Engagement and Support
This initiative is part of the Telkom Foundation’s Executive Adopt Programme, which allows executives to support causes they are passionate about. CEO Serame Taukobong, an alumnus of the school, emphasized the personal connection to the project, highlighting the importance of education and digital inclusion.
According to Mpho McNamee, Group Chief of Corporate Affairs at Telkom, the focus is on creating opportunities for young people through access to technology. This investment is not just about facilities but about empowering learners to thrive in a digital world.
