The official handover of the Northside Early Childhood Development Model Centre took place on 20 October 2026, with a construction value of 1.2 million Namibian Dollars. This centre, located at Northside Primary School in Rehoboth, is designed to provide a safe and stimulating environment for young children to learn and grow.

MTC Partners with DWN for ECD Centre

The Northside Early Childhood Development Centre is the second model established through the partnership between MTC and Development Workshop Namibia (DWN). The first centre was built in Oshakati in 2024. This initiative aims to extend access to quality early learning opportunities across Namibia.

Tim Ekandjo, MTC’s Chief Brand, Marketing, Communications and Sustainability Officer, emphasized the importance of leadership in making meaningful changes in children’s lives. He called on leaders to prioritize community service over personal interests and political differences.

Focus on Quality Early Learning

The Northside centre is designed to engage children through various activities, including storytelling, creative arts, and outdoor play. These planned areas will foster exploration, problem-solving, and social interaction among children. The centre also aims to support children with different abilities and learning needs through inclusive resources.

Ester Veiko, DWN Executive Director, highlighted the necessity of sustained investment in early childhood education, which includes training educators and providing learning materials. DWN will continue to support the centre through training and mentoring.

Future Steps for Early Childhood Development

  • DWN will provide ongoing educator training and mentoring.
  • Northside Primary School will manage the facility.
  • Further partnerships are encouraged to enhance ECD services across Namibia.

MTC’s commitment to early childhood development is paving the way for future leaders in Namibia.
