Oman and Botswana have forged a significant partnership through a new Air Services Agreement.
This agreement, signed on 17 September 2026 in Gaborone, allows for unlimited direct flights between the two nations. It was formalized during Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s state visit to Botswana, with representatives from both countries signing the deal.
Unlimited Flights Between Oman and Botswana
The Air Services Agreement is grounded in open-skies principles, enabling airlines from both countries to operate an unrestricted number of direct flights. This framework is designed to enhance air transport services and facilitate greater connectivity.
Comprising 23 articles, the agreement addresses economic principles, regulatory cooperation, and technical aspects of civil aviation. It also includes a route schedule to aid airlines in expanding their passenger and cargo networks.
Strengthening Civil Aviation Cooperation
Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority President, Eng. Naif bin Ali Al Abri, emphasized that this agreement is part of Oman’s broader strategy to enhance civil aviation cooperation. The initiative aligns with Oman’s National Aviation Strategy 2040, aiming to broaden air connectivity and support tourism, trade, and investment.
Oman has established bilateral air transport agreements with 134 countries, reflecting its commitment to enhancing global air connectivity and fostering economic growth.
