Namibia is on track for significant population growth over the next three decades.
The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) forecasts that the population will increase from approximately 3 million in 2023 to 5.2 million by 2053. This growth represents an addition of about 2.29 million people, despite a decline in the average number of children per woman.

The NSA’s projections indicate that Namibia’s population will continue to rise, albeit at a slower rate. By 2030, the population is expected to reach 3,472,879, increasing to 5,018,893 by 2050 and 5,264,514 by 2053. The annual growth rate is anticipated to decline from 2.3% in 2023 to 1.6% by 2053.
This slowdown in growth is primarily attributed to a decrease in fertility rates. The total fertility rate is projected to drop from 3.9 children per woman in 2023 to 3.0 children per woman by 2053. However, the population is still expected to grow due to high fertility rates in the past and ongoing population momentum.
