China and Egypt are strengthening their economic ties, with significant growth in trade figures.
In the first seven months of 2026, trade between China and Egypt reached 95.19 billion yuan (about 14.16 billion U.S. dollars), marking an 18.7 percent increase year on year. Notably, imports of Egyptian agricultural products surged by 82.6 percent during this period.
Surge in Egyptian Agricultural Exports to China
China’s imports from Egypt have seen remarkable growth, particularly in agricultural products. These imports accounted for 41.7 percent of China’s total imports from Egypt, highlighting the increasing demand for Egyptian goods.
Egypt has emerged as China’s largest source of frozen strawberry imports and its third largest source of flax imports. This trend reflects the complementary resources shared between the two nations, fostering a mutually beneficial trade relationship.
Mechanical and Electrical Products Drive Exports
On the export side, China sent 51.53 billion yuan worth of mechanical and electrical products to Egypt from January to July, a year-on-year increase of 23.9 percent. This category constituted 56.9 percent of China’s total exports to Egypt, underscoring the strong demand for these products.
The growth in trade is attributed to the Belt and Road Initiative, which has facilitated closer cooperation between the two countries. This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt, further solidifying their partnership.
