The Zanu-PF party is undertaking a significant data-cleaning initiative to enhance its membership database. This move is part of a broader digitalisation programme aimed at modernising political coordination.

The party is transitioning from traditional paper registers to dynamic, computerised databases. This shift aims to ensure accurate membership numbers and track growth effectively.

Zanu-PF Launches Data-Cleaning Exercise

During a recent meeting, Zanu-PF Secretary for Economic Affairs, Lieutenant-General (Retired) Engelbert Rugeje, announced the launch of the data-cleaning exercise. This initiative is crucial for verifying the party’s membership records, which have faced challenges in the digitalisation process.

Rugeje highlighted issues such as incorrect National ID numbers and data capture errors as contributing factors to verification failures. The goal is to correct these discrepancies to strengthen the integrity of the membership database.

Zanu-PF: Key figures on membership errors

  • Close to 70,000 members in Harare have errors
  • Total membership exceeds 500,000

Addressing Membership Data Challenges

Zanu-PF Harare provincial chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa confirmed the extent of the errors in the membership list. He noted that mistakes occurred during the compilation, leading to discrepancies that hinder data capture.

The party plans to deploy teams across all administrative districts to rectify these errors. This includes ensuring that each member’s information is accurately captured and verified.

Next Steps for Zanu-PF’s Data Initiative

  • Deploy six experts in each of the 30 constituencies
  • Conduct data capturing and corrections in all branches and cells
  • Supervision of the exercise by Dr. Rugeje in Harare

Zanu-PF is committed to ensuring accurate membership records through this data-cleaning exercise.
