Indonesia is taking significant steps to enhance its drilling capabilities through international collaboration.

PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Iceland Drilling Company Limited. This partnership aims to explore opportunities in providing onshore drilling rigs and accessories for both domestic and international markets, effective for two years starting from August 20, 2026.

Partnership to Enhance Drilling Capabilities

The collaboration between Pertamina Drilling and Iceland Drilling marks a strategic move to strengthen business expansion and global capabilities. Avep Disasmita, the CEO of Pertamina Drilling, emphasized the importance of this partnership in enhancing capabilities and expanding business opportunities beyond Indonesia.

Both companies will leverage their strengths, with Pertamina Drilling bringing its experience in geothermal drilling and Iceland Drilling contributing its extensive expertise in high-temperature geothermal well drilling.

Key Experience in Geothermal Drilling

Iceland Drilling has been operational since 1945, focusing primarily on high-temperature geothermal drilling. The company has drilled nearly 300 geothermal wells since 1970, showcasing its significant experience in the field.

This expertise is crucial for advancing geothermal drilling technology, particularly through projects like the Iceland Deep Drilling Project (IDDP), which highlights Iceland Drilling’s commitment to innovation in geothermal energy.
