Nairobi County and the Kenya Defence Forces showcased their boxing prowess in the latest National Boxing League.
After three days of competition at Mumboha Stadium in Luanda, Vihiga County, Nairobi County secured seven points in the women’s category, while the Kenya Defence Forces led the men’s category with 23 points.
Nairobi County Triumphs in Women’s Boxing League
Nairobi County emerged victorious in the women’s division of the National Boxing League, amassing seven points. The Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Police followed closely, each with five points. The competition featured several thrilling bouts, with Lencer Akinyi of Nairobi defeating Veronica Mbithe of KDF decisively with a score of 5-0 in the women’s 51-kilogram category.
Amina Martha, a representative of Kenya at the Commonwealth Games, also showcased her skills by defeating Mary Anyango of Nairobi in the women’s 54-kilogram category. The outdoor boxing ring set up by the Boxing Kenya Federation attracted a sizable crowd, adding to the excitement of the event.
Kenya Defence Forces Dominate Men’s Boxing
The Kenya Defence Forces displayed remarkable strength in the men’s category, finishing with 23 points, significantly ahead of the Kenya Police, who scored 12 points. This performance highlights the competitive spirit within the league and the growing popularity of boxing in Kenya.
In a notable bout, Eustus Wanjau of G44 was saved by the referee during a match against Chris Juma of Kasarani Youth, showcasing the intensity and unpredictability of the competition. The league continues to foster talent and enthusiasm for boxing across the nation.
