The Gambia is enhancing healthcare access with new health posts and ambulances.
On August 10, 2026, President Adama Barrow inaugurated the Ballangharr and Buduck Health Posts in the Central River Region. These facilities aim to reduce travel distances for medical care, providing essential services like first aid and childbirth management.
New Health Posts to Improve Medical Access
The newly commissioned health posts are designed to serve communities that have struggled with long distances to healthcare facilities. President Barrow emphasized the importance of these projects, particularly for women, who will benefit from easier access to medical care. The health posts will also facilitate referrals for more complex medical needs.
Barrow highlighted that Nianija, where the Buduck Health Post is located, is considered the poorest district in The Gambia due to its inaccessibility. The recent inauguration of a connecting road will significantly ease access to the health post, linking Njau, Buduck, and surrounding areas.
