Namibia is on a path to eliminate hunger through self-reliance and stronger food systems.

Brazil’s ambassador to Namibia, Pedro Menezes, announced a N.9 million contribution to the World Food Programme. This funding aims to support small-scale farmers and empower communities to produce their own food, reducing reliance on aid.

Brazil’s Commitment to Namibia’s Food Security

During the handover event in Windhoek, Menezes highlighted Brazil’s success in overcoming hunger in less than 30 years. He expressed confidence that Namibia can achieve similar results by leveraging its own resources and farmers.

Brazil’s approach emphasizes self-reliance, moving away from humanitarian assistance to building robust food systems. The goal is to expand support from 300 families to 3,000 families, enhancing community resilience.

Aligning Development with National Plans

Kaire Mbuende, director general of the National Planning Commission, stated that the contribution aligns with Namibia’s development plans. This alignment ensures that support is relevant and effective, allowing for sustainable results.

Mbuende emphasized the importance of local ownership in development cooperation, ensuring that resources are utilized effectively for the benefit of the Namibian people.

Upcoming Initiatives and Collaborations
