Government Raises Daily Feeding Grant for Special School Students to GH¢15

The government of Ghana has raised the daily feeding grant for students in special schools, marking a significant policy shift.

The new grant increases from GH¢8 to GH¢15 per child, effective immediately. This adjustment aims to enhance the quality of meals for children in special needs institutions, as announced by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu.

Ghana Boosts Daily Feeding Grant for Special Schools

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, revealed the increase during a media briefing in Accra. He emphasized that this change is part of the Mahama administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable learners. The previous feeding fee of GH¢8 has now been adjusted to GH¢15, ensuring that all special needs schools comply with the new rate.

This initiative is expected to improve the nutritional quality of meals provided to students, addressing a critical need in special education. The minister’s directive mandates that no student in these institutions should receive less than the new feeding grant.
