ZESCO to Construct New 132KV Transmission Line for Urban Electrification

ZESCO is set to enhance Lusaka’s electricity infrastructure with a new transmission line project.

The Lusaka Transmission and Distribution Rehabilitation Project (LTDRP) will construct a 132 Kilovolt (KV) transmission line segment from Chilanga to Lusaka West at a cost of 20 million United States Dollars. The project aims to improve urban electrification and expand access to electricity for underserved communities.

ZESCO’s Commitment to Urban Electrification

The Chilanga District Commissioner, Maureen Chilende, emphasized the government’s focus on urban electrification. Investments will accelerate city grid expansion and improve transmission and distribution infrastructure. This initiative is crucial for ensuring reliable and affordable power for residents.

During a recent stakeholder engagement meeting, Chilende urged committee members to support the development and communicate its benefits to the community. The project is designed to address critical electricity supply constraints and enhance network capacity.

Addressing Electricity Supply Challenges

The project will be funded by the European Investment Bank, with contributions from the government. ZESCO is committed to implementing the project responsibly and sustainably.
