Mercy Ships Provides Thousands of Surgeries and Training in Sierra Leone

Mercy Ships has made a significant impact on healthcare in Sierra Leone through its extensive surgical and training programs.

Between 2023 and 2026, the organization delivered over 5,430 surgeries and more than 17,110 dental procedures. They also trained over 590 local healthcare workers, contributing more than 106,780 hours of training in partnership with the Ministry of Health.

The initiative, celebrated by President Julius Maada Bio, involved over 450 Sierra Leonean volunteers and professionals from more than 70 nations. Their collective efforts exemplified dedication and professionalism in improving local healthcare.

Mercy Ships has been a key player in Sierra Leone’s healthcare development since 1992, establishing a strong partnership with the government. The organization focuses on building a sustainable surgical system through various training programs, including nurse anesthesia and biomedical technician education.

Future Plans for Ongoing Healthcare Support
