India and Seychelles celebrate a significant milestone in their partnership as Seychelles marks its 50th Independence Day.

During a state visit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Golden Jubilee celebrations, highlighting the deep ties between the two nations. An Assam Rifles contingent and an Indian Navy marching band joined the festivities, with two Indian naval ships, INS Tarkash and INS Ikshak, docked at Port Victoria.

India’s Role in Seychelles’ Independence Celebrations

Prime Minister Modi’s visit underscores the longstanding friendship between India and Seychelles. He became the first Indian Prime Minister to address the National Assembly of Seychelles, emphasizing shared values like democracy and governance. The presence of Indian naval ships during the celebrations reflects a tradition of solidarity and support.

Modi gifted a fast patrol vessel named LESPWAR, along with utility vehicles and boats, to enhance Seychelles’ defense capabilities. This gesture reinforces India’s commitment to supporting Seychelles’ sovereignty and security.

They also announced Seychelles’ membership in the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, showcasing a commitment to sustainable development. Several agreements were signed to enhance cooperation in multiple sectors.
