IFAD Reaffirms Partnership with Sierra Leone for Livestock Development Project

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is reinforcing its commitment to Sierra Leone’s agricultural development through the Livestock and Livelihoods Development Project.

During a recent Implementation Support Mission, IFAD’s Country Director, Pascaline Barankeba, praised the partnership with the Sierra Leone government. The LLDP, launched by President Julius Maada Bio in October 2025, aims to enhance food security and economic opportunities for rural communities, particularly women and youth.

Pascaline Barankeba highlighted the strong collaboration between IFAD and the Sierra Leone government during the mission. She commended the leadership of Agriculture Minister Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka in driving the LLDP forward. The project is crucial for improving livelihoods and food security in rural areas.

The mission focused on assessing the project’s progress, identifying challenges, and ensuring effective delivery of sustainable livestock-based livelihoods. Barankeba emphasized the need for the project to transition from planning to impactful implementation.

The LLDP aims to reduce poverty and enhance food security among rural households. It also seeks to create economic opportunities for women and youth. Barankeba called for strengthened coordination among stakeholders to maintain momentum and achieve the project’s objectives.

Minister Kpaka reiterated the government’s commitment to the LLDP as a key part of the “Feed Salone” strategy. He stressed the importance of timely implementation to ensure measurable impacts before 2028.
