Egypt has made a significant natural gas discovery in the Nile Delta, promising to boost its energy production capabilities.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced that the new well, Nidoco N-2, is expected to produce 50 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d). This discovery is a collaboration between Italy’s Eni and the UK’s British Petroleum.
New Natural Gas Well Boosts Egypt’s Energy Sector
The exploratory well Nidoco N-2 was drilled in the West Abu Madi area, a strategic location for natural gas extraction. Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, highlighted the well’s proximity to existing infrastructure, which is less than 2 km from the nearest production facilities. This closeness will facilitate a rapid connection to the grid.
The anticipated production of 50 million cubic feet per day is expected to enhance Egypt’s energy output significantly. The early production phase is set to commence in the coming weeks, allowing for efficient investment spending in the sector.
