Naomie “Ngozi” Grandison has unveiled her debut poetry and prose collection, “Perched on My Consciousness.”

The 98-page book explores themes of identity, relationships, and self-awareness, reflecting on the human experience through poetry and prose. Grandison launched her book on April 18, 2026, at Bel Jou Hotel in Castries, sharing her journey and inspirations with family and friends.

During the launch, Grandison expressed her excitement about finally sharing her work with the world. She highlighted the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on her decision to publish, emphasizing how quickly life can change. Attending a friend’s book launch also motivated her to pursue her own writing.

Grandison began writing poetry in 1999 while studying at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. Initially, her poems were personal reflections, but her writing evolved significantly during the pandemic, leading to the creation of twelve new poems in a few weeks.

“Perched on My Consciousness” invites readers to reflect on their own experiences and emotions. The collection addresses self-acceptance, resilience, and cultural identity, encouraging a deeper understanding of oneself. Grandison aims for her readers to feel compassion and pride in their Caribbean heritage.

At the book launch, she read excerpts from her collection and performed music, engaging the audience with her artistic journey. Guest poets also contributed to the evening, creating a vibrant atmosphere of creativity and connection.
