Libya has taken a significant step towards economic unity with its first unified budget in over a decade.

The new budget totals 190 billion dinars, approximately 29.95 billion US dollars. This agreement aims to reduce financial divisions and enhance economic stability in a country long plagued by political strife.

Libya’s Historic Unified Budget Passage

The approval of Libya’s first unified budget since 2013 marks a pivotal moment for the nation. The budget, valued at 190 billion dinars, was agreed upon by the High Council of State and the House of Representatives. This collaboration is vital in a country that has faced years of political division.

Abdul Jalil Al-Shawish, a representative of the High Council of State, emphasized the importance of this budget during the passage ceremony. He noted that the Dbeibah government will manage salaries, operating expenses, and subsidies, ensuring that essential services are funded.

Financial Allocations and Development Priorities

The budget outlines significant financial allocations aimed at stabilizing the economy. Key allocations include 73 billion dinars for salaries, 37 billion dinars for subsidies, and 40 billion dinars earmarked for development projects. The Central Bank of Libya will supervise the implementation of these allocations.

A joint committee will be formed to prioritize development projects listed in the budget. This committee will include various stakeholders, ensuring a collaborative approach to Libya’s economic recovery.

Next Steps for Libya’s Economic Future

  • The House of Representatives is expected to legislate the budget after allocating 12 billion dinars to the National Oil Corporation.
  • Implementation of development projects will commence following the budget’s approval.
  • The Central Bank will oversee the allocation and use of funds as planned.

This unified budget is a crucial move towards financial stability and national unity in Libya.
