Ho Chi Minh City is set to significantly expand its social housing initiatives.

The Ho Chi Minh City Confederation of Labor and Tan Thuan Industrial Promotion Company (IPC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop 200,000 social housing units by 2030. This collaboration aims to address the pressing housing needs of workers in the city.

Collaboration to Address Housing Needs

The agreement between the two entities marks a pivotal step in tackling housing shortages for laborers. Both parties have begun researching and surveying suitable land plots for construction, focusing on areas near industrial parks and high-density worker zones. This strategic location selection aims to enhance accessibility for workers.

Investment will extend beyond mere apartment construction. The project will include essential amenities such as nurseries, convenience stores, parks, and community spaces, which are crucial for improving the overall quality of life for residents.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Vo Khac Thai, Standing Vice Chairman of the Confederation, emphasized the importance of understanding actual housing demand. The Confederation will propose policy mechanisms to state agencies and advocate for effective communication to ensure the housing reaches those in need. Meanwhile, IPC will take charge of land acquisition, financial planning, construction, and project management.

Next Steps for Social Housing Development

  • Conduct surveys on actual housing demand.
  • Propose preferential policy mechanisms to state agencies.
  • Continue collaboration with IPC for project execution.

This initiative aims to transform the housing landscape for workers in Ho Chi Minh City.
