Africazine:

Four bears rescued from captivity are on their way to a new home in Vietnam’s Bach Ma National Park.

On April 13, Nguyen Vu Linh, the park’s director, announced the successful coordination with Animals Asia and Ho Chi Minh City forest rangers for the rescue. The group includes two Asiatic black bears and two sun bears, all over 20 years old, marking a significant moment for the park.

First Sun Bears Arrive at Bach Ma National Park

This rescue marks the first time sun bears have been received at the Bach Ma centre. One of the sun bears has lost sight in its left eye, highlighting the challenges these animals face. The bears were microchipped in 2005, indicating a long history in captivity.

Animals Asia reported that the bears were sedated and transported in specialized cages for their safety during the 900 km journey from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue. They arrived on the evening of April 14, ready for their new beginning.

Health Monitoring and Rehabilitation Plans for Rescued Bears

Upon arrival, the bears will undergo a minimum 30-day quarantine period for health monitoring. This is crucial for assessing their condition before introducing them to a semi-natural environment. Each bear will receive an individual care plan tailored to its health needs and ability to adapt.

The park has prepared facilities and personnel to ensure a smooth transition for the bears. Close collaboration with relevant agencies will be maintained throughout the transfer, quarantine, and rehabilitation process.

Next Steps for the Rescued Bears

  • 30-day quarantine period for health monitoring.
  • Individual care plans to be implemented.
  • Gradual introduction to a semi-natural environment.

These rescued bears are set to receive the care they need in a safe environment.
