Hanoi is set to enhance its drainage systems significantly to combat flooding.
A series of infrastructure projects worth billions of VND aim to upgrade drainage systems across northern and northwestern urban areas of Hanoi. Key projects include a VND 262 billion initiative scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2026 and a VND 869 billion upgrade of the Thuy Phuong canal expected to finish in the third quarter of 2026.
Major Drainage Projects in Hanoi
The city is investing heavily in large-scale drainage systems, which include kilometres of box culverts and retention lakes. The VND 262 billion project will cover areas such as Resco, Ecohome, and the Diplomatic Corps area, with a focus on reducing flooding through improved drainage.
Another significant project, valued at VND 869 billion, aims to enhance the Thuy Phuong canal, rehabilitating a 3.6-kilometre section and replacing outdated infrastructure. This upgrade will help replenish flows to the To Lich River, addressing long-standing drainage issues.
