Vice-President Arrives in Uíge for Cultural Heritage Working Visit

The Vice-President of Angola is on a crucial working visit to Uíge Province.

Esperança da Costa arrived for a 48-hour visit, where she will chair the 1st Ordinary Session of the National Multisectoral Commission for the Safeguarding of World Cultural Heritage. The agenda includes reviewing the implementation report of the World Heritage Committee’s recommendations for Mbanza Congo and updates on cultural heritage in Uíge Province.

Vice-President’s Agenda in Uíge Province

During her visit, Esperança da Costa will oversee discussions on various cultural heritage matters. This includes the review of the 2025 Festikongo Edition Report and updates on the Mbanza Kongo Tourism and Hotel Availability Plan. The Vice-President’s itinerary also features visits to educational and health institutions, highlighting ongoing projects in the region.

The National Multisectoral Commission for the Safeguarding of World Cultural Heritage, established under Presidential Decree No. 25/18, aims to promote conservation programs and manage cultural heritage effectively. Recent updates to the commission’s mandate were made under Presidential Decree No. 93/23.

Uíge Province’s Cultural and Natural Richness

Uíge Province is approximately 345 kilometers from Luanda and is celebrated for its diverse natural and cultural attractions. Notable sites include the Nzenzo Caves, recognized as one of Angola’s seven natural wonders, and Bombo Falls in Ambuila municipality. The province also features the Serra do Pingano mountain range and the vast Béu forest reserve.
