University of Liberia to Announce Philip N. Wesseh Journalism Award Winner Today

The University of Liberia is set to honor excellence in journalism with a prestigious award.

The Philip N. Wesseh Excellence Journalism Award will recognize an outstanding journalist from the University community for the 2025–2026 academic year. The winner will be announced today, February 25, 2026, during the University’s 105th Commencement Convocation.

University of Liberia Celebrates Journalism Excellence

The Philip N. Wesseh Excellence Journalism Award was established by the University of Liberia through the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities. This award honors the legacy of Philip N. Wesseh, a notable figure in print journalism in Liberia, who dedicated over 40 years to the profession.

Atty. Wesseh was not only an alumnus but also a part-time instructor at the University, where he earned a BA in Mass Communication and an LLB in Law. His commitment to quality journalism and truth has inspired many within the University community.

Liberia’s Commitment to Journalism Education

The University of Liberia continues to uphold high standards in journalism education. The College will also confer BA and BSW degrees on 170 candidates, including 96 males and 74 females, during the same ceremony. This reflects the institution’s dedication to nurturing talent in various fields, including Communication and Media Studies.

With a focus on excellence in teaching and research, the College aims to transform Liberian society and contribute to global development. The establishment of the PNW Excellence Journalism Award further solidifies this commitment.
