Traditional Leaders Praise Government for Empowerment Initiatives at Chief Installation

The installation of Chief Nematombo marks a significant moment for traditional leadership in Zimbabwe.

During a ceremony at Karambazungu High School, Ben Chipanda was installed as the 18th Chief Nematombo. Traditional leaders praised the Zimbabwean Government for its empowerment initiatives that have enhanced the dignity and recognition of chiefs, particularly following the 2013 National Constitution’s provisions.

Government Initiatives Elevate Traditional Leadership

Traditional leaders from Mashonaland West expressed gratitude towards the Government for its role in restoring their dignity. The legislative and empowerment programs have materially improved the status of traditional leaders in society. Chief Mtshane Khumalo emphasized the importance of the 2013 Constitution in recognizing the central role of traditional leaders.

Minister Marian Chombo, who officiated the installation, highlighted the Government’s commitment to the welfare of traditional leaders. She stated that traditional leaders are vital in driving community development and ensuring that all voices are heard in the Devolution agenda.

Chief Nematombo received various symbols of his office, including a robe, staff, and insignia, along with a vehicle and cellphone from the Government. He expressed gratitude for the support from the community and the Government, emphasizing a collaborative approach to development.
