The Sarawak government is transforming Batu Kawa into a vibrant urban sanctuary by 2030.
Under the Ang Cheng Ho Quarry redevelopment project, a 70-acre park will be developed, featuring a quarry lake and various recreational facilities. Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian announced that Phase 2 of the project has begun, with an allocation of RM8 million this year.

The Sarawak government aims to create a lush urban sanctuary comparable to KLCC Park in Kuala Lumpur. This initiative is part of a broader master plan to revitalize Batu Kawa, enhancing its appeal as a tourist destination. The proposed park will encompass over 40 acres of land and a 20-acre quarry lake, totaling approximately 70 acres of green space.
Dr Sim emphasized the importance of collaboration with private landowners to ensure a comprehensive town planning approach. The vision includes a shopping center, hotel, and other facilities, all set within landscaped gardens and park areas.

Current Progress and Future Developments
Phase 1 of the redevelopment has been completed, featuring a multipurpose hall that accommodates between 800 and 1,000 people. Phase 2, which has commenced this year, will introduce walking trails, rock-climbing, extreme sports facilities, and water sports activities around the quarry lake. Proper lighting will also be installed to enhance safety and visibility in the area.
