Malaysia is tackling rising tensions surrounding race, religion, and royalty on social media.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is in discussions with the Attorney General’s Department to find effective mechanisms to address the escalating issues related to race, religion, and the monarchy, collectively referred to as 3R. The Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, highlighted that excessive openness on social media has allowed some individuals to make comments that cross legal boundaries.

PDRM’s Strategy to Combat 3R Issues

Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail emphasized the ongoing discussions with the Attorney General to devise strategies to tackle the persistent issues surrounding race and religion. He noted that these discussions are crucial as the problems have been exacerbated by social media’s unrestricted nature, allowing for potentially harmful comments.

In a recent community policing program, he reiterated the need for a coordinated approach to manage these sensitive topics effectively. The police are committed to monitoring social media and taking measured actions against those who threaten public order through the manipulation of sensitive issues.
