Minister of Public Health Receives Equipment to Enhance Immunization Supply Chain

Cameroon is taking significant strides to enhance its vaccination logistics.

During a recent visit to the Littoral region, the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Malachie MANAOUDA, received 823 solar refrigerators valued at 7 million US dollars. This initiative aims to boost the cold chain technology coverage in health facilities from 47% to 82%.

Strengthening Immunization in Cameroon

The delivery of solar refrigerators is a pivotal move for Cameroon’s Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI). These units will ensure that vaccines are stored at the correct temperatures, thereby reducing stockouts and waste. The logistics package also includes 374 off-road motorcycles to enhance access to vaccination services in remote areas.

With 296 motorcycles funded by Gavi and 78 by the Mastercard Foundation through Africa CDC, this initiative aims to bridge the gap in vaccination access. Additionally, refrigerated vans, trucks, and light vehicles are being deployed to further support the logistics of vaccine distribution.

Cameroon: Key figures on vaccination logistics

  • 823 solar refrigerators
  • 7 million US dollars
  • 4.2 billion FCFA
  • 826 million FCFA contributed by the Cameroonian government
  • Coverage increase from 47% to 82%
  • 374 off-road motorcycles

Commitment to Vaccine Delivery

The Minister emphasized the importance of high-performance logistics in vaccination efforts. He outlined the need for a preventive maintenance plan and training for users to ensure the effective deployment of these resources. The focus will be on priority areas with low access to healthcare services.

Dr. MANAOUDA expressed gratitude to partners like Gavi for their support in safeguarding public health. This initiative reflects a commitment to building a more resilient and equitable vaccination system in Cameroon.

Next Steps for Enhanced Vaccination

  • Priority deployment of resources to low-access areas
  • Implementation of a preventive and curative maintenance plan
  • Organization of training for users
  • Reinforced monitoring and accountability measures

Cameroon is advancing its vaccination logistics to ensure no child is left behind.
