Kano State is witnessing significant leadership changes within its Pilgrims Welfare Board.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has appointed Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle as the acting Director-General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, following the resignation of Alhaji Laminu Rabi’u Danbappa. This shift comes amid a political crisis involving the governor and his mentor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
New Leadership at Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board
Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He previously served as the Executive Secretary of the Pilgrims Welfare Board and as Permanent Secretary, Establishment, before retiring from the Kano State civil service. His extensive background in managing Hajj operations positions him well to lead the board effectively.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, emphasized Matawalle’s seasoned administrative skills, noting his rise from Assistant Secretary to Permanent Secretary over an eight-year tenure. This experience is expected to benefit the board during this transitional period.

In addition to Matawalle’s appointment, Governor Yusuf has promoted Yusuf Mukhtar to Permanent Secretary within the board. The governor also appointed Barrister Rahama Malam Alhaji as Provost of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Institute, recognizing her extensive legal expertise.
