Africazine:

Access to healthcare in Namibia is set to improve with the donation of portable ultrasound probes.

The Capricorn Foundation presented three portable ultrasound probes valued at over N0,000 to the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Esperance Luvindao, on 12 February. These probes aim to support the ministry’s strategy to decentralize and reduce congestion in healthcare services, particularly in underserved communities.

Portable Ultrasound Probes Enhance Healthcare Access

The portable ultrasound probes will be deployed at the Nathaniel Mazuilili Clinic in Tobias Hainyeko, Windhoek, which serves 46,000 residents. Another facility, the Katutura Health Centre, treats over 20,000 patients monthly. Currently, neither location has on-site diagnostic imaging services, leading to delays and long waiting times at regional hospitals.

The introduction of these probes is expected to enable faster clinical assessments and improve patient flow. This enhancement in diagnostic capability will significantly benefit thousands of Namibians seeking timely medical care.

Capricorn Foundation’s Commitment to Healthcare

Marlize Horn, Executive Director of the Capricorn Foundation, emphasized that the donation aligns with their commitment to strengthen healthcare across Namibia. The foundation recognizes that access to quality healthcare is vital for a healthy nation.

By supporting the ministry’s efforts to decentralize diagnostic services, the foundation is not only investing in equipment but also in the dignity and well-being of communities.

Next Steps for Implementation

  • Deployment of probes at the Nathaniel Mazuilili Clinic and Katutura Health Centre.
  • Training for healthcare staff on the use of the portable ultrasound probes.
  • Monitoring the impact on patient flow and diagnostic capabilities.

Improving healthcare access in Namibia is a crucial step towards better community well-being.
