Senegal is taking a significant leap in digital connectivity with the launch of its first satellite internet service.

Sonatel Orange has introduced this groundbreaking service in partnership with Eutelsat Konnect, providing unlimited high-speed internet to households and businesses across the nation. This initiative enhances internet access, especially in remote areas, and aligns with Senegal’s Horizon 2050 development plan.

Sonatel Orange’s new satellite internet service represents a major milestone in Senegal’s digital transformation. By integrating satellite technology with existing fibre, 4G, and 5G networks, the company claims to cover 99% of the country’s territory. This expansion is crucial for reaching underserved rural areas, ensuring that all Senegalese can access reliable internet.

The service is already operational, with local technical teams installing the necessary infrastructure. This approach not only addresses connectivity challenges but also promotes technological sovereignty by utilizing local expertise.

Senegal: Key figures on satellite internet service

  • 99% of Senegal’s territory covered
  • 1m additional fibre optic connections planned between 2026 and 2028
  • Nearly 2m total optical sockets expected by the end of 2028
  • Initial fibre deployments completed in December 2025

Expanding Digital Infrastructure in Senegal

The launch of the satellite service aligns with Senegal’s broader strategy for inclusive connectivity. Orange aims to ensure that high-speed internet is not just limited to urban centers but reaches all regions of the country. This initiative will also support the digitalization of public services, enhancing access to education and healthcare.

By investing in satellite, fibre, and mobile infrastructure, Sonatel Orange is solidifying its role as a key player in Senegal’s digital landscape, fostering long-term economic growth and social transformation.

Next Steps for Senegal’s Digital Expansion

  • Further rollouts of fibre optic connections in the coming weeks
