Metro Mass Transit Limited is taking significant steps to enhance public transport in Accra.

The company plans to procure about 300 Isuzu buses by February 2026 to address the shortage of public transport vehicles. This initiative was announced during a visit by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, where MMT management discussed collaborations with private suppliers to expand operations.

Metro Mass Transit to Acquire 300 Isuzu Buses

Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT) is focused on improving its fleet to meet the growing demand for public transport in Accra. The acquisition of 300 Isuzu buses is a key part of this strategy, with plans for delivery by February 2026. The Managing Director, Kale Cesar, highlighted the importance of these new buses in alleviating the pressure on the current fleet.

In addition to the Isuzu buses, MMT is also collaborating with private vendors to procure 15-seater Toyota Hiace buses and 30-seater Coaster buses. These efforts aim to enhance transport services throughout the capital, ensuring that residents have better access to public transportation.

Funding Challenges for Electric Bus Delivery

MMT has signed a contract for 100 electric buses, but funding constraints have hindered full delivery. Currently, only 10 units have been supplied, with the remaining 90 pending the release of funds from the Ministry of Finance. The Managing Director has appealed for the necessary financial support to facilitate the delivery of these electric buses, which would significantly boost MMT’s operational capacity.

Next Steps for Metro Mass Transit

  • Procurement of 300 Isuzu buses by February 2026.
  • Engagement with private vendors for additional bus types.
  • Release of funds by the Ministry of Finance for electric buses.

Metro Mass Transit is committed to improving public transport in Accra through strategic fleet expansion.
