The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency is revolutionizing traffic monitoring with drone technology.
LASTMA has deployed drones to enhance traffic management, aiming to improve travel times and reduce accidents. The initiative, which began over seven months ago, allows drones to cover distances of 10 to 12 kilometers, capturing real-time incidents on the roads.
LASTMA’s Drone Initiative Enhances Traffic Monitoring
LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, announced the deployment of drones during a recent meeting with media representatives. The drones are designed to monitor vehicle breakdowns and accidents, providing crucial data for traffic management. This technology enables LASTMA to respond more effectively to incidents on major routes, including the Third Mainland Bridge and tollgate areas.
In addition to drones, LASTMA has implemented a toll-free line to gather public feedback. This line, operational since 2024, allows citizens to communicate in English, Yoruba, or Pidgin, ensuring that complaints are addressed promptly. The agency has ten responders dedicated to managing these calls, which has significantly improved service delivery.
Lagos: Key figures on Traffic Management Technology
