In an inspiring triumph for the future of skills development in Papua New Guinea, MANASAH Samson, an electrical technician with Coca-Cola Europacific Partners PNG (CCEP PNG), has made history by winning both the Apprentice of the Year and the Best Tradesperson of the Year at the prestigious awards night organized by the National Apprenticeship and Trade Testing Board (NATTB). This remarkable achievement not only highlights Samson’s exceptional talents but also signifies the commitment of CCEP PNG to nurturing local talent.
This year, the NATTB awards attracted 20 companies, each nominating their finest candidates to showcase their skills and innovations. Participants underwent rigorous assessments from November 25 to 27, which included interviews, theory tests, and practical project demonstrations. A panel of five judges meticulously evaluated each contestant. Samson distinguished himself with a groundbreaking project that modified a manual coffee pulping machine into a semi-automated operation. His concept was ingeniously crafted to address the challenges faced by rural farmers who still rely heavily on labor-intensive manual methods.
The recognition of Samson’s hard work is a testament to the months of preparation and the unwavering support he received from his trainer and coach, Joe Philip, as well as from other managers and supervisors at CCEP PNG. “This moment is a proud milestone for CCEP PNG and highlights the immense potential of investing in our local workforce,” shared Fred Daniels, head of people and culture at CCEP PNG. “Samson’s innovation exemplifies how technical skills can enact significant change within communities.”
CCEP PNG’s country manager, Tim Solly, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the company’s dedication to developing Papua New Guinean talent. “Samson’s victory not only demonstrates our commitment to fostering local capability but also acts as a beacon of hope and inspiration for aspiring innovators across the nation,” he remarked.
CCEP PNG continues to pave the way for skill enhancement and innovation in the region. As they invest in their workforce, they are nurturing a new generation of leaders ready to drive progress and development. With successes like this, the future looks bright for Papua New Guinea and its dedication to cultivating homegrown talent.
