Renault has just set a dazzling benchmark in electric vehicle technology with its new Filante Record EV concept, achieving an astounding distance of 1,008 kilometers on a single charge of its state-of-the-art 87 kWh battery. This exciting milestone was reached at the UTAC test facility in Morocco on December 18, where the vehicle averaged a respectable speed of 102 km/h during this impressive endurance challenge.
The venture had ambitious objectives, including completing 239 laps of a four-kilometer circuit while maintaining an average speed above 110 km/h. Remarkably, the Filante Record preserved 11% battery charge upon crossing the finish line, indicating it could have journeyed an additional 120 kilometers at over 100 km/h—a testament to its extraordinary efficiency.
Renault didn’t just aim for a record distance; they were focused on showcasing real-world efficiency, a balance not easily achieved in electric vehicles. Rather than opting for a larger battery or driving at economical speeds, the design team heralded a higher standard for performance and sustainability. “Our goal was not only to drive the longest distance but to redefine efficiency in electric vehicle technology,” Renault representatives explained.
What makes this achievement even more noteworthy is the collaborative effort behind the Filante Record. A trio of skilled drivers, including development driver Laurent Hurgon, chassis control engineer Constance Léraud-Reyser, and tuning engineer Arthur Ferrière, were instrumental in the record attempt.
The Filante Record isn’t just about impressive numbers. It is created using innovative, ultra-light materials and includes advanced features such as 3D-printed components. The vehicle employs cutting-edge technologies like steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire systems, heightening its performance capabilities. Additionally, the car’s bespoke low rolling-resistance tires, developed by Michelin, play a key role in optimizing energy efficiency.
Renault has highlighted that the knowledge gained from this remarkable endeavor will be pivotal in shaping future electric models. The ultimate goal is to offer vehicles that not only meet the evolving needs of customers but also perform exceptionally well under real-world conditions, even at high speeds. This exciting development signals a meaningful step towards sustainable driving without compromising on efficiency or performance.
Stay tuned for more updates from the world of electric vehicles and sustainable technology!
