Saudi Arabia Leads the Way in Global AI Readiness: A Bold Initiative in South Africa!

Saudi Arabia Spearheads Global AI Development at Impact Africa Workshop

In a significant show of commitment to advancing artificial intelligence (AI) readiness across the globe, the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) recently showcased the Kingdom’s efforts at the AI for Good Impact Africa event in Johannesburg, South Africa. This prestigious gathering brought together thought leaders and experts to discuss the critical role AI can play in enhancing various sectors within the continent and beyond.

During the workshop’s opening remarks, SDAIA exemplified its dedication to fostering international collaboration by working closely with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to develop the AI Readiness Report. This important initiative highlights Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the AI domain, as they continue to refine and expand the AI Readiness Framework first introduced at the Global AI Summit in Riyadh in September 2024.

Marwa Alfattani, a key representative from SDAIA, spoke passionately about the robust partnership that has flourished between Saudi Arabia and the ITU since the signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2022. This collaboration has given rise to innovative initiatives such as the AI Readiness Plugfest, aimed at building institutional AI capabilities worldwide. By developing a globally recognized model for assessing AI readiness, the initiative not only enhances technological adoption in individual countries but also promotes a spirit of cooperation and shared learning.

Among the notable achievements highlighted by Alfattani was the much-anticipated launch of the Global AI Readiness Report in Geneva in 2024, along with the presentation of the final AI Readiness Framework during the GAIN Summit the same year. These developments provide a valuable roadmap for countries striving to fortify their AI infrastructure and policies.

SDAIA’s active participation in events such as this aligns closely with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to nurture a flourishing digital economy powered by knowledge and innovation. The Kingdom is dedicated to harnessing modern technologies for the betterment of humanity, ensuring that all nations benefit from the transformative potential of AI.

As the world looks towards AI to revolutionize industries and improve lives, Saudi Arabia is determined to play a pivotal role in this evolution. The emphasis on international collaboration at the Johannesburg workshop paints an optimistic picture of a future where countries unite to leverage AI for sustainable growth and development.
