New Helipad Approved for Mar-a-Lago: What It Means for Local Residents
In a significant development for Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, the Land Preservation Commission has officially given the green light for a brand-new helipad. This impressive structure, set to measure a substantial 60 feet in diameter, will be positioned on the club’s west lawn. Notably, this same location was previously used during Trump’s tenure as president.
The key purpose of the helipad is to provide a secure landing site for Marine One, the presidential helicopter. According to land use attorney Harvey Oyer III, the helipad is specifically designed to bear the weight of Marine One and will be utilized primarily for security evacuations rather than regular flights. This means that while it might cause some noise, the helipad will serve an essential function without being a daily disruptor for the local community. “Will it make noise? Absolutely. These are very big helicopters and they do make noise,” Oyer acknowledged.
Concerns about noise have been a hot topic among residents. Longtime local Dave Kaminer expressed his thoughts by saying, “We have constant helicopters flying up and down the coast.” While he has some concerns about the potential increase in noise from the new helipad, he remains hopeful that officials will restrain helicopter operations to reasonable hours. “We would hope that Mr. Trump or anybody else using that helicopter is not going to be out here at 2 o’clock in the morning waking people from their sleep,” he noted.
Interestingly, not all members of the commission were on board with the project. Alexander Ives raised concerns regarding the introduction of temporary structures in the community and voted against the request. Nonetheless, the town has ultimately moved forward with approving the helipad.
Next on the agenda, Mar-a-Lago representatives will work on securing the necessary building permit. It’s worth noting that the expenses associated with the construction of the helipad will be covered by Mar-a-Lago, and once Trump’s term concludes, the helipad will be dismantled.
As the anticipation grows for the helipad’s construction, one thing is clear: this development will bring both benefits and challenges to the surrounding community. Engaging in open dialogue and addressing residents’ concerns will be vital in ensuring a harmonious relationship between Mar-a-Lago and its neighbors.
