In an exciting development for the energy sector in Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has named Engineer Keith Chikomo as the inaugural Manicaland Regional Operations Manager. This decision was announced during a recent media engagement workshop held in Mutare, where ZERA’s Communication and Public Affairs Manager, Lindiwe Nyoni, elaborated on the agency’s vision for strengthening engagement with local communities.
The newly created position is a strategic move aimed at amplifying ZERA’s outreach efforts and enhancing service delivery to stakeholders within the Manicaland region. “Since establishing a presence in Manicaland in March 2018, we recognized the need for closer engagement—hence the creation of this pivotal role,” Nyoni explained. With this addition, ZERA is poised to bolster its interactions across various stakeholders in the region, ensuring that the needs and concerns of the local populace are effectively addressed.
Chikomo, an engineer with a wealth of experience, expressed his commitment to laying down a strong operational foundation within his first 100 days on the job. He is focused on fostering a culture built on vital principles such as transparency, responsiveness, and accountability. “I’m determined to cultivate stakeholder trust and operational excellence driven by our core values. Establishing strong foundations will enable us to meet and exceed expectations in energy regulation,” stated Chikomo.
This initiative could signal a brighter future for the energy landscape in Manicaland, as ZERA aims to create a more customer-centric approach. Given Zimbabwe’s pivotal role in the African energy sector, this appointment has the potential to influence not just local stakeholders, but also set a precedent for regulatory practices across the continent.
As Zimbabwe embarks on this journey towards enhanced energy management and stakeholder engagement, all eyes will be on Engineer Chikomo and his leadership in the Manicaland region.
