Empowering Consumer Rights in Burkina Faso: Training Wraps Up in Bobo-Dioulasso

Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso – In a significant step towards enhancing consumer rights and financial education, the closing ceremony of an intensive 72-hour training session was held this Thursday at the Cultural Center of Bobo-Dioulasso. Organized by the National Agency for the Promotion of Inclusive Finance (ANPFI) through its Observatory for the Quality of Financial Services (OQSF), this event saw over thirty enthusiastic participants dedicated to elevating consumer understanding in financial matters.

Under the expert guidance of Nicolas Kobiane, a representative of ANPFI’s Director General, and Banda Diouf, the esteemed financial mediator from Senegal’s OQSF, the three-day session, which took place from October 28 to 30, 2025, delved into essential topics such as budgeting, savings, debt management, and consumer protection. This initiative aligns perfectly with ANPFI’s mission to bolster the financing capabilities of financial service providers, improve accessibility for vulnerable populations and SMEs, and empower consumers with the knowledge they need to make informed financial decisions.

The discussions at Bobo-Dioulasso followed successful previous sessions in Ziniare and Koudougou, making it clear that the appetite for knowledge on responsible financial management is robust among community leaders. Following these enriching discussions, participants voiced strong support for future training workshops to enhance their skills further, ensuring they can effectively assist their communities.

Dasmane Traore, president of the Consumers’ League of Burkina Faso, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, noting its vital importance in addressing consumer needs. “This workshop is crucial for consumer representatives. Many have not fully reaped the benefits of financial institutions, and it was essential to recognize and engage this important sector of our population,” he commented. He further emphasized the significance of debt and savings management, describing it as critical for healthy living in a stable economy.

OQSF’s Financial Mediator, Edgard Ouattara, articulated the goals of the training, which focuses on equipping associations with the skills necessary for effective budget management and financial mediation. “In instances where disputes arise between consumers and financial institutions, having a mediation system helps ensure that issues can be resolved amicably, saving time and resources,” he explained.

With a clear call to action, Quattara encouraged participants to disseminate their newly gained knowledge within their respective communities, promoting financial inclusion across Burkina Faso. This initiative not only strengthens consumer rights but also fosters a culture of financial literacy, setting a solid foundation for a more equitable financial landscape in the country.
