Namibia Welcomes Groundbreaking Women’s Month Conference with SAPS Delegation: Celebrating Empowerment and Leadership!

Namibia Welcomes SAPS Delegation to Celebrate Women’s Month

In an inspiring display of regional solidarity, Namibia is set to host a delegation of women from the South African Police Service (SAPS) from today, August 1st, until the 15th. This visit is a significant part of South Africa’s Women’s Month celebrations, which hold deep historical significance.

Women’s Month commemorates the remarkable bravery of over 20,000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on August 9, 1956, protesting against the apartheid pass laws. This year not only marks the 69th anniversary of this essential moment in South Africa’s history but also celebrates the 30th anniversary of the first official National Women’s Day, under the theme “Building Resilient Economies for All.” It’s a call to action that seeks to uplift economies and empower women across the region.

The SAPS delegation, led by Major General Anna Sithole, highlights the warm and cooperative relationship between Namibia and South Africa, particularly in the realms of internal security and law enforcement. This initiative demonstrates both countries’ commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and delivering quality service to their communities.

The delegation will embark on a remarkable journey, starting at Ariamsvlei and making various stops at police stations along the way. They will visit notable destinations such as Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, soaking in the rich culture and scenic beauty of Namibia. The trip will culminate in Windhoek, where they will host their inaugural Women’s Month conference, fostering dialogue on women’s rights and empowerment on August 14th. They’ll conclude their visit by exiting through Gobabis on August 15th.

The Namibian police are advising road users to be alert, as the convoy of nine buses may cause some traffic congestion on the busy B1 and B2 routes.

As this powerful delegation engages with local communities, it’s a reminder of the invaluable role that women play in shaping society and enforcing the law. In the words of the Chairperson of the Police Women’s Network, this visit is about empowering women to enhance service delivery and align with the national commissioner’s activities in August.

Join us in celebrating this inspiring initiative that not only strengthens ties between Namibia and South Africa but also uplifts women across the continent!
