“LASU Unions Call Off Strike: Classes Set to Resume This Wednesday!”

The Joint Action Committee of the Lagos State University (LASU) has officially ended its industrial strike, bringing excitement and relief to students and staff alike. The announcement came during a Senate meeting held on August 11, 2025, which resolved to resume all academic and social activities at the university starting Wednesday, August 13, 2025. This return to normalcy follows significant discussions with key stakeholders, including the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.

LASU’s Deputy Registrar and Coordinator for the Centre for Information and Public Relations, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, confirmed the decision in a statement, stating that the university is ready to welcome students back to campus. Students are encouraged to move into their hostels across the university’s Ojo, Ikeja, and Epe campuses by the set date. The much-anticipated 2024/2025 Second Semester Examinations, which were previously postponed, are slated to begin on August 18, 2025.

Prior to this decision, the Senate held a virtual meeting on August 2, where they had to suspend all activities due to the strike initiated by the Joint Action Committee on July 31. While initial reactions may have created uncertainty amongst the student body, the dedication of LASU’s administration in working closely with government officials is now shining through as a testament to their commitment to educational excellence and stability.

This positive development is timely as the university prepares to start a new academic session. Students are urged to return promptly and gear up for their upcoming examinations, with school management emphasizing the need for thorough preparation.

Such collaborative efforts between university administration and government officials highlight the importance of communication and proactive measures in resolving academic disputes, ultimately benefiting the wider educational community.

As LASU embarks on a new chapter, this return to form signifies not only a resurgence of academic activities but also a reinvigoration of campus life. The LASU community is brimming with excitement as they set the stage for a productive semester ahead.
