Exploring the Seas: Five Years of Adventure Aboard Le Jacques Cartier with Ponant

Celebrating Five Years of Exploration: Le Jacques Cartier Marks Milestone for Ponant

Le Jacques Cartier has recently completed a noteworthy five-year journey with Ponant, showcasing a legacy of luxury and adventure on the high seas. Delivered on July 10, 2020, this stunning vessel represents the sixth and final entry in Ponant’s innovative Explorer class, and has made waves in the cruising industry ever since.

Constructed across the VARD shipyards in Romania and Norway, Le Jacques Cartier embodies over 10,000 tons of cutting-edge maritime technology harmonized with environmental stewardship. Ponant has always prided itself on revolutionizing the ocean voyage experience, and with Le Jacques Cartier, that mission continues full steam ahead.

What truly sets this ship apart is its commitment to providing guests with an intimate and immersive experience. Boasting 92 elegantly designed staterooms, each equipped with private balconies or terraces, travelers can bask in the beauty of the ocean while enjoying world-class amenities. One unique feature is the Blue Eye lounge, which invites guests to gaze into the underwater world through large windows that resemble the eyes of a whale, offering a breathtaking glimpse into marine life.

Adding a dash of artistic flair, Le Jacques Cartier showcases a hidden masterpiece by renowned French graffiti artist Shuck One. During construction, the artist created an allegorical diptych on the ship’s raw steel, celebrating the beauty of oceans and nature. This artistic piece, now concealed yet accessible through a special porthole, adds an intriguing layer of cultural experience to the voyage.

Although the pandemic caused a temporary pause in operations, with the vessel laid up for a year, Le Jacques Cartier finally welcomed guests in July 2021 for its inaugural season. The ship’s maiden voyages explored the enchanting Breton Coast and the breathtaking Ponant Islands from St. Malo, with subsequent itineraries taking travelers to beautiful destinations like Corsica and the scenic Camargue Natural Park.

Looking to the future, Le Jacques Cartier has big plans on the horizon. In 2025, the ship is set to embark on expeditions to Australia’s mesmerizing Kimberley region and later reposition to the tranquil waters of the South Pacific and Micronesia. As we head into the winter season, adventurers can look forward to exploring remote destinations including Papua New Guinea, Guam, Indonesia, and East Timor, promising unparalleled experiences on the open ocean.

As Ponant continues to redefine luxury travel, Le Jacques Cartier’s journey reflects not only the ship’s innovative design but also the spirit of exploration that draws travelers to the seas. Here’s to many more years of adventure and discovery on one of the ocean’s most captivating vessels!
